The Eatwell Guide

The Eatwell Guide shows how much of what we eat overall should come from each food group to achieve a healthy, balanced diet. <SEND>

The Eatwell Guide

The guide divides the foods and drink we consume into five main food groups.

Fruit and vegetables should make up over a third of the food we eat each day. Starchy carbohydrates should make up just over a third of the food you eat. Eating some protein is needed for a healthy balanced diet. Milk and dairy or dairy alternatives are needed for a source of protein as well as an important source of calcium. Unsaturated fats oils and spreads are high in energy so should be eaten in small amounts. Foods that are high in fat, salt and sugar should be eaten less often and in small amounts. Drinking 6 to 8 cups of fluids is also recommended by the government.
